Flame Of Love: Poems Of The Spanish Mystics St. John Of The Cross And St. Teresa Of Avila

St. John of the Cross considered his poetry to be the most authentic expression of his theology and his ineffable mystical experience. St. Teresa's poetry has not received the same acclaim and attention as John's. But like him, she used poetry as a way of expressing the ineffable -- the divine flame of love which consumed her. These translations accurately preserve the meaning of the original poems, retain their rhyming schemes and utilize meters as close to the original as possible. Each page of English translation faces the original Spanish text of the poems.

I truly enjoyed this translation of St. John of the Cross and St Teresa of Avila poetry. It is not exactly, to me anyway, quite up to the presentation given by Father Kieran Kavannaugh, OCD in Fr Kavanaugh's collections of SJC and STA but very pleasant to read, quite refreshing when familiar with the works of the two saints and the book is the perfect size for bedside. I would recommend it and after having read the poetry in this form would not hesitate to purchase it again.

A really good translation for a lover of St John of the Cross and St Teresa of Avila.

Captures the essence of the original works.
