Your perspective and point of reference regarding the people of Iran will almost certainly be changed by reading this book/devotional. God loves people and these people of Iran will be endeared to your heart as you read how He communicates, in many different ways, His love and provision of grace to them. You will no longer paint the people of Iran with a broad Islamic brush, but your heart will be compelled to pray for a dry and thirsty land and a people hungering for the truth and love of Jesus.
Inspiring stories of those who are presently trying to live as Christians in Iran as well as many who have been forced to flee the country in order to escape punishment and even death for daring to live openly as Christians in a non-Christian land. Highly recommend. Would be great to use each chapter and the questions that accompany it in a weekly Bible study.
This is a devotional with a difference – each day follows a chapter from the book of Acts,and has a verse from that chapter, along with a true testimony of an Iranian Christian. As well as the stories, they have a photo of the person whose story it is, and a short note at the end of how their story ties into the chapter in Acts, and how it can make a difference to your life.I was half-fearful that this would be a depressing read, because of the stories I had read in the news about pastors persecuted in Iran, but I was surprised by how full of hope it was. I found it to be a genuinely inspiring and uplifting, full of stories of courage and God’s goodness in dark places. Shawn Smucker is such a talented storyteller, and he faithfully conveys the drama and voice of each individual testimony, so I didn’t want to stop reading. This is a gem of a book – helps you to pray for Iran by rooting it in people’s stories, informs and encourages you about the realities of the persecuted church, and has practical insights for living out. It would be great to read for a month as a devotional, or as a book group together.
If you've ever wanted to know more about the people of Iran than what you see in the news, this is a good place to start. The author interviews Christians who live or have lived in Iran and tells their stories. The book is designed to be studied along with the book of Acts and contains a story to match each chapter. This is a great book for a book club or Bible study group. It is also a great book if you just want to learn more about Iranians and their struggles.
Wonderful book!! I felt so connected to the people of Iran through their stories. I couldn't resist reading more than just one per day. God is truly at work in Iran! Let's join the effort through prayer and obedience to the Lord's call!
