A beautiful page-turning and action filled story of the old west with its minute-to-minute danger and a glimpse into the sophisticated old south where slaves kept the plantations running smoothly. The promise is to free a family and it is expensive and not easily done legally with letters of manumission and a certainty that no one will attempt to enslave them again. A fast-paced story of sacrifice, duty to honor, and Yankee ingenuity and well worth the time.
I have never read a book by B.N. Rundell, but I must say I have really enjoyed this book. I was a sad that Jeremiah lost his entire family and Ezekiel was killed. But was glad to see him keep his word and free family. I will be reading more book by this author. I want to read Star Dancer.

Great story. Really love a good revenge tale now and then. this one did not disappoint. Masterfully told, with great setting, vivid characters and a solid plot. Enjoyed it from start to finish. Highly recommend!
I would like to recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very interesting and exciting book where the action never stops. I am finding these books to be very difficult to put down. I will be looking forward to reading the next book from this author.
