Excellent books for children of all ages; maybe the little ones will need an adult to read to them some of the stories with the most complex vocabulary, like the BFG, but there is a rich variety of stories for children of all ages. Adults will enjoy them too. "Boy" and "Going Solo" may be more appropriate for older kids and adults. My 5 year old asked for this set as a birthday present, I'm sure he'll be thrilled!
I love Roald Dahl, his books were my favorite when I was a kid. His books speak to kids and adults of all ages, and the imagination his books inspire in children is unparalleled. I was so excited to buy this box set for my 8 year old son who is in second grade. He is a huge reader, but was having a hard time connecting to books that were on a more mature level than Captain Underpants, Stink, etc. I knew he would love these and I am so happy to say I was right! These books are timeless. He devours them, laughs out loud, asks insightful questions about the characters and subtext. This is the best kind of book for a growing child, imaginative, exciting, fun, wacky, sweet, with a clear moral message that isn't preachy or creepy. Have started to reread all of these books so that I can discuss them with my son, and we are having the best time. This is one of the best decisions I ever made in terms of buying reading material for my son. He likes having them all together in the box, they look great as well. Yay!
As a teenager I used to take my dog out for a walk in the woods, lie down in the grass on a sunny spot and read. And the stories that I still remember most are Roald Dahl's, not these ones, but those written for an older audience.Finally, my 5-year-old daughter is old enough to share the fantastic world of Mr Dahl. We're both enjoying reading these stories, neither of us can stop. They get our imagination going - we meet many witches on our way to camp, and we see BFG peering in through our window on the 2nd floor at night.These stories are a wonderful set. Magical stories, scary, imaginary worlds and phenomena to share with your kids.Get them. Read them.
The stories speak for themselves. They're classics! I'd pay double for these stories alone, without the bells and whistles that come with the box set. That being said, the packaging is attractive as well!I'm reading these to my son.
This set is amazing! I'm having my 10 year old read a book a day during the summer and these are perfect. On days he finishes a book that's been made into a movie we do movie night. The illustrations are really cute too! Not sure it needs to be said that the writing is amazing, but my son, who typically does not like reading, seems to really love the stories.
We got two of this set - one for our four year old, and one as a gift for a family of children ranging from 2-10 (who were delighted to receive it). It has all of the greatest hits of Roald Dahl, the greatest children's book author ever in my humble and correct opinion, plus all the original Quentin Blake illustrations that are so delightful, humorous, and necessary to full enjoyment of Dahl. Our 4 year old and I both enjoy listening to dad read these classic, hilarious, imaginative stories. The paperback covers are really nice, pretty colors, fit nicely in their box, and make it easy to bring the books around the house or to grandma's house for sleepovers. Highly recommend this!!!
Dahl is my favorite children's book writer and this is a nice little deal, 15 books for 40 something bucks. I hope my six-year-old niece enjoys these titles as much as I did when I was a kid. It's cool she'll have a nice collection on her dresser and hope it begins to inspire a love of reading.
Love this set. It has all the popular books by Roald Dahl and a few new ones. It's a great deal at this price. We bought it for our daughter's birthday, to give out as party favors. It was a huge hit among all kids and parents alike!
