This book is about “Sumerians: Discover History's First Civilization: Everything You Need to Know About the Sumerians of the Ancient World (Ancient History, Ancient Civilizations Handbook)”. The first chapter reviewed the history of the modern study of the Sumerians. As late as the 19th century the Sumerian culture was completely unknown. For the layman the book provides a readable and up to date introduction to a most fascinating culture. When scholars and archaeologists began excavating in Mesopotamia they were looking for Assyrians, not Sumerians. This chapter revealed the history of the decipherment of Sumerian writing. This Sumerian book is very detailed and concisely written to help understand readers on its wonderful civilization way back then. It’s really a great book.
Heavy on narrative and light on citations. This is a very brief overview that could (I guess) generate interest in a more scholarly source. I've only gotten through the first four chapters and the text clearly was not properly proof-read before publication. Looks like they ran spell check and left it at that. See excerpt below for an example.From chapter 4 "To this date, several possible school buildings of ancient Mesopotamia have been uncovered. One of them is located in the city of Nippur, the other one in Ur, was the third one was found in Ur."Overall it seems thrown together and cheaply done. Would not recommend.
I love history and I can read anything as long as it is history. This book is rich in history and it give us the history of Sumerians people. It has created in me the life of Sumerian people, there way of life, their civilization and how things unfolded in their life. The book is well organized and the events in Sumerian people are well articulated and thus very captivating to the reader. This is great history, thanks to the author for sharing this history with us.
This is a great informative book. This incredible book tells you just about everything possible about The Sumerians. It's a phenomenal history: law, economics, trade, social wellness, family, relationships, education and much, much more. It has about as much detail as anyone who is not specifically a scholar of Sumeria can absorb. This is an esoteric book where a readers need to have a real interest in the Sumerians and their contribution to human history. This is a pretty neat book that describes Sumerian life and culture. Overall, this book is well written and easy to understand.Highly recommended.
This book is a great source of knowledge about Sumerian civilization. It’s a book packed with the best information about the topic and every reader would absolutely learn a lot. The author was able to show how the people lived in these times. This Sumerian book is very detailed and concisely written to help understand readers on its wonderful civilization way back then. I really like the how this book discussed the Sumerian Civilization. This is a great book for the historian, scholar but it is not a book for easy reading.

This is one of the best books ever written on any ancient culture. One of the nicest things is extended passages from original source documents. Frequently books written on ancient civilizations only give very brief excerpts. The author has chapters on history, society, religion, literature, education, and character.As a real bonus, instead of just referencing various Sumerian writings, the author actually reproduces them here with great frequency. Highly recommended this book.
